Sailing is very popular on the Madison area chain of lakes. It's a pleasant pastime for people who want to get out on the water with only the sounds of the wind and the waves. Lessons are available in the Madison area for beginners as well as for more advanced sailors who want to hone their skills. Many types of sailboats are available for lessons, depending on your interest and comfort level. Some of the organizations that give lessons are looking for experienced sailors to be volunteer instructors. Many sailing clubs exist in the Madison area. Most hold races every week in the summer. There is also an ice racing club for winter enthusiasts.
